New Recipe - Lecso-Cabbage with Gnocchi

DSC_5415_bearbeitet-2

Lecso, a typical Hungarian dish, is a spicy tomato pepper sauce. Lecso-cabbage or lecso-cabbage-soup is a near relative, as popular as the lecso sauce. As I love everything that contains tomatoes and as I love cabbage too (even my husband does), this dish is a big favorite of us – spicy or really hot. I serve it with gnocchi and a glass of red wine. Even if I make almost everything myself I have to confess that these gnocchi are self … bought. In an organic whole food market of course where they have many different types of gnocchi.

Ingredients (serve 2)

  • 1/2 of a cabbage
  • 1/2 of an onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • oil for the pan
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • caraway
  • 4 tomatoes and tomato sugo
  • 1/2 cube vegetable broth
  • salt, pepper, chili, paprika
  • 1 tbsp balsamico

Clean the vegetables, peel onion and garlic cloves and dice, cut the cabbage finely. Roast in a pan with oil. Add sugar and caraway and roast-stir some time, until the cabbage gets caramelized.

Add diced tomatoes, tomato sugo, bell pepper, about 250 ml water (or more or less – depends on you how thick you want to have it) and the cube vegetable broth. Stir well.

Season with salt, pepper, chili (optional, s. photo below – our private chili jungle) and paprika. Let simmer for about 30 minutes. Add the balsamico, stir well and taste. Serve with gnocchi or fried or baked potatoes and enjoy with a glass of excellent red wine.
